(yeah, the same family you tend to avoid through out the rest of the year
and are usually successful...except this time around)

Nov. 4 started out great but ended on a mission half completed. Yes we finally have a half black man in the highest position in government- progress... He embodied that which is wonderful about this country; a nations ability to see pass the physical and truly see the individual that stands within, a leader... This is something that a few years back we sought as impossible but forward it to the present- it happened! As i stated earlier this was half the battle Nov. 4 brought... It wasn't all great news to a great percentile of Californians. Just as we made history with electing Obama as president we took a step back on civil rights! Just as gay marriage was allowed this year in California a proposition arose called prop 8 which would try to amend the state constitution specifically stating marriage as a Man and Woman ordeal. Sadly  it passed and by only 52 % This was a real blow to the LGTB community and anyone who truly believes in equality for all. Since prop 8 passed there has been protests happening everywhere in California. Today I, with many other fellow orange county-nians, joined a nation wide protest that took part in many counties through out  California and in many other states. It was a joined effort to stress our concernes of equality for all humanity- not only for certain individuals. This is only the beginning- protests won't stop until change happens and I am certain that one day in the future we will look back an realize how foolish/ignorant/ irrational prop 8 is- just like when womens & blacks were considered half-citizens w/o equal rights.

On a Serious note..

Due to recent events- passing of prop 8- many of you out there have join the masses and hit the streets in protest of the inequity treatment of our fellow brothers & sisters, neighbors, friends, partners, co-workers, etc. of the Lesbian & Gay community. But it has come to my attention that there has been some violations (arrests/ beatings/verbal abuse) by cops towards protestors...for no justifiable reason. So I am inclined to say that if you are going to protest ( which we fully support/encourage) please, Please, PLEASE keep it peaceful- we are trying demonstrate our disaproval of such prop- and by bringing ruckus we only shine a bad light on ourselves and what we are trying to say/prove. Also be informed/educated on your rights as a protester don't let cops (authority) scare you... theres a line that you and/or cops shouldn't cross and being aware of what that is..well its your best bet on staying safe and setting a case against a cop that has violated his power! And if you do go protest it be smart to take cameras/ video recorders to have viable proof of such injustice.

No to H8

So what do you do when your state passes a proposition that denies human beings their civil rights? You take to the streets! Over 10,000 people that included families, friends, lovers, gay and straight were in Silver Lake showing their support for gay rights and outrage over the passsing of Prop 8 that denies gay couples the right to marriage. The march started in Silver Lake and people marched to Sunset Blvd. It was a cheerful, and most of all peaceful demonstration. The momentum generated there was inspiring. And what was even more great was watching all the children and teens that showed up to support the march and participate in it.

So now that the march is done with....
Let us not end the momentum that it has generated. If you weren't able to go there is still more DIRECT ACTION you can do.
Go to Http://lds501c3.wordpress.com. This is an IRS complaint to Revoke the LDS church of its tax exempt for breaking U.S code as a non-profit organization for donating money to passing of Prop 8.

Black is the new Black or Grey is the new black..or.. Who gives a ****?

I thought I'd share my list of must have-things for fall/winter:
Broken down into a few posts within the next couple of days.

I'll start with this seasons essential: the Boyfriend Blazer
If you're like me you have way too many black leather (faux-leather, in my case) jackets.
(my excuse- they are all different cuts/styles so technically they all look different, atleast in my head)
So what is the next step? A classy Black well fitted Blazer!! Duh.
Pair it with a skirt or some leggings- whatever floats your boat- It's the missing link(piece) to your hot outfit & closet.




Then theres the little black dress that could..well in this case the little grey dress.



The holidays are coming which means for many, time to dress up!
So why not invest in a simple-well constructed dress that you can use over and over- for any occasion.
I know some of you out there are saying "It's cold outside!!"
My response- Stop whining! Buy some black tights, black booties & a mid waisted coat/jacket... and you're set!

Store Opening Nov. 6

What is better than good music? How about good music at a store opening? If you haven't heard Diesel is opening a 55DSL tomorrow in South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. And what better way to celebrate a grand opening than with damn good music.
They will have a performance by Lykke Li- if you havent heard her stuff than you must be living under a rock!
plus. Bjorn (yes, from peter bjorn & john) and Dan Sena.
6-9 pm. Third floor in Crystal Crout (the extension of South Coast- right across the street/bridge)

But with all good news comes not so good. Yes there is a catch.

Historic Night

It has been a tense day; easily  sensed in the air. Everywhere you turn "I Voted" stickers proudly worn as a badge by passer-bys.... In itself this has been one of the most hyped presidential elections in history with a suprising turn-out at the polls. Individuals wanting to be a part of history... wanting to be able to tell their future grandchildren about how all it took was an economic crisis for the American people to deviate its attention from superficial/ superfluous side-tracking issues/crap and turn its head to the reality of what was/is occuring within this country. OUR COUNTRY. To finally focus on the real issues affecting the everyday person and how much needed change was in need. For the first time in history America came together and stood its ground. For the first time a good enough percentage of Americans left their biases behind and backed up a man who represents hope and change who stood for the everyday folk. For the first time in American History americans elected a half Black half white individual and made him the leader. America has spoken and its my pleasure to announce that our new president of the United States is BARACK OBAMA!!!

Here at Oh So Lively we take the the ability to voice our opinion in ANY matter very seriously. As fellow youngsters ourselves...we feel its our civic duty to remind and encourage all of you out there , 18+, to go to your polls tomorrow and VOTE, if you haven't already done so. An emphasis on you young folks... I feel this is our time to voice..SHOUT... our opinions through the means of a ballot and demonstrate that we care. We have to rememeber that all the shit happening out there is going and in many situations already affecting US directly and to sit back and allow other individuals to decide/take control of OUR future is foolish. This is not a the time to take the back seat... tomorrow be heard.
